Soul Craft – A Poetry Workshop | 18th Sep to 2nd Oct 21
Welcome to the ‘Soul Craft – Poetry Workshop’ – Sculpt Your Poetic Voice facilitated by Manas Mukul and Namratha Varadharajan.
What started as a casual chat between the master crafter, the soft voice, Namratha Varadharajan and me quickly transcended to being a full fledged poetry workshop. She wanted to conduct one and I was itching for a year to get a workshop going and try to impart what all I know.
In August of 2021, the first ever ‘Soul Craft – Sculpt your poetic voice’ poetry workshop took place. We got an overwhelming response and participants from different time zones joined us. A response that far exceeded our expectations. The participants created 130+ poems in one fortnight! And since then our phones and messengers haven’t stopped buzzing. We are receiving multiple inquiries about the next iteration of the workshop.
The good news is that we have decided to not sit back on our laurels and get to it right away. We are opening the registrations for the second instance of the Soul Craft Poetry Workshop.

Over the span of two weeks, we offer you a range of poetic tools to craft your poetic voice. Writing, sharing, reading and critiquing each other’s work shall be at the crux of the workshop. At the end of two weeks, each participant shall leave with approximately 10 poems, but more importantly techniques added to their poetic arsenal and a direction for their poetic journey.
Mary Oliver’s words describe our mission for this workshop – “to empower the writer who stands between two marvellous and complex things—an experience (or an idea or a feeling), and the urge to tell about it in the best possible conjunction of words.“
Who is the workshop for?
This workshop is designed to cater to beginner and intermediate level poets. Written a few 100 poems? This workshop shall help you to enhance your poetic voice. Never written a poem before? Don’t worry. We believe that this workshop will give you the tools to kickstart your poetic journey.
Dates for Soul Craft – Poetry Workshop
The workshop will begin on Saturday, 18th Sep 2021 and will be completed in two weeks by 2nd Oct 2021.
How much time do we need to dedicate each day?
Around an hour on Saturdays for our meetups plus time to write a poem each weekday based on a concept. Also, some time each day for interacting with the work of others. Being a believer of the need for pause even when in the pursuit of our passions and knowledge, Sundays shall be a rest day.
Which Platform will this be on?
A combination of Zoom sessions over the weekends and a private Facebook/Whatsapp group for daily interaction.
Now coming to the most important question. What are some of the things we shall explore in the workshop?
- Playing with words
- Imagery and Metaphorical writing
- Infusing our work with poetic structures
- Writing from within and around
- Writing memorably
- Writing for a cause
- A Technique to overcome writer’s block
- Basic revision techniques
Listen to what the participants of our workshop had to say!
This is the first poetry workshop I attended and I loved the way it was designed and organized. I enjoyed trying new concepts and writing a poem sticking to the given structures. It has been a learning experience throughout.

How much does it cost?
Though we received feedback that we are offering the workshop for much less than its value, we continue to retain it at 500 rupees only for this workshop. We will be providing a payment link and a Gpay number for your convenience. If you need a PayPal number, email us at soulcraftworkshop@gmail.com.
Additionally, you shall also get an opportunity to be a part of an exclusive Soul Craft Poetry anthology at the end of the workshop!
The organic process from observing a thing, observing your thoughts, coming up with the words that resonate with your emotions, and then taking those emotions forward in the form of poetry coupled with a range of poetic tools and techniques – That’s our target and that is what we are offering. Like it is said, Why just write poetry when you can write better poetry?
