अरे दुर्योधन, काश तू आज होता

अरे दुर्योधन, काश तू आज होता Banner

Pinterest

Meaning: सड़ांध – Smell when something is rotting. भक्षक – Predator. दोष मंढ – To Accuse.

Reading “Are Duryodhan kash tu aaj hota” has given me chills, this has become the saddest reality of our society and system Manas ji. Sometimes it makes me think that do we really mean when we say “Mera Bharat Mahan” or “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”? You took the words right out of our mouth. Outstandingly penned as always!

Even in times of Duryodhan …he couldn’t touch Droupadi ..how much he tried . What the world has come to. Seriously reading this makes me feel numb.. yes this is the reality ..every year 1-2 such cases touch the headlines and they are just the top of iceberg .. we are not even discussing the ones within the confines of marriage and family.

  5. Rashi Roy says:

I have no words. This has been penned outstandingly well. It’s sad that we are in a time when such poems are relevant. Each and every word reflects the current situation we are in. More power to your pen. Keep them coming.

  16. The poem is so impactful and relatable in today’s time too. We can only hope and wish kaash Duryodhan aaj hota

  30. Aesha says:

Such powerful poetry. Though I dont read Hindi poetry, this hit the right chord because as a young school going girl I faced this , as a teenaager I faced this, as an adult woman I have faced this and now I really fear for my daughter.

    • Manas Mukul says:

Thanks for praising the poem Aesha ji. I too fear that the things are going from bad to worse. Where are we heading as a society..??

  31. Ninu Nair says:

Really strong words from you! I think these sentiments should be shared widely…education and economic development may take decades to come by but attitudinal change can be brought about in our society in a much lesser time period.

  34. Varsh says:

Manas, the Abhimanyu line was truly hard-hitting. How we dream about bringing a life in this world but don’t realise the rotten atmosphere they’re going to live in once they face the world. Navratri pe kanya dhundte hain, usse poojte hain, aur baaki samay uspar tedhi nazar rakhke usse nochte hain. We really need to raise our sons well. Girls can look after themselves.

  35. Samarpita Mukherjee Sharma says:

    beautiful.

  36. Ruchie says:

I really loved the way you have penned down the current situation and feel sad about this situation!!

First of all I am a big fan of Hindi and loved reading it. Secondly, the poem is so well written, so deep, and so poignant at the same time. This is a sad reality of our country right now and this poem shows how and what it is! Good one Manas!

Thank you so much Deepa ji and thank you again. Firstly for liking hindi – I feel emotions are portrayed better in the language we speak…and secondly for liking and appreciating the poem. Please keep visiting. Would love your feedback on other hindi poems as well.

  38. This is a crude reality of our society today, just not India across world. When I read stories of ISIS abuse survivor girls, it gave me sleepless nights. The problem lies in the deep roots of our genetic code associated with parenting. Simple things, innocent things like ‘do you want a boy or girl’, type of question itself starts the bias. If we want to stop this, as a society we have to change the mindset.

    • Manas Mukul says:

True. For the change to come in…we will need to change our mindset. Thanks for visiting and commenting Dipika ji.

  39. Roma says:

A bang on heart wrenching satire Manas. How I wish other men thought like you

    • Manas Mukul says:

  40. Aurora M says:

I am speechless! Harsh truth and painful reality. Will this ever be changed ??? No answers…

    • Manas Mukul says:

I don’t think so things will change soon or fast. Even the educated ones are propagating the same mindset so it becomes really difficult. Thanks for liking it.

  41. Shalzz says:

That’s the way our society actually functions, right? I think I like your Hindi poems better now and when you come up with something as eloquent and relevant as this, words fall short to appreciate you.

    • Manas Mukul says:

Thank you so much for appreciating the hindi poems. Keep reading and commenting. Thanks again.

  42. richamina says:

Once again you did a great job with your soul stirring poem. The way our country has deteriorated that we’ve accepted the line “one more incident” instead of “what an incident”. i wish things could change…

    • Manas Mukul says:

The change isn’t simple or won’t be quick. The problem is we aren’t ready to accept that there is a problem. Thanks for liking and motivating Richa ji.

  43. Shamik says:

    • Manas Mukul says:

Abhi tak to khud ko poet nahi manta…bas kuch dino se mann me bechaini thi to shabdon se bayan ki hai…You are too kind to say that this one is the best you ever read…but will add to my list of top compliments. Means a lot. Really.

  45. upasna1987 says:

Manas ye kavita dil ko chune wali hai. Samaaj ka ye haal dekh Duryodhan bhi soch mein pad jata agar aaj wo hota. Beton ko padao, jaanwar se insan bnao.

    • Manas Mukul says:

Thank you so much Upasna ji for liking this one. Ye mere liye kafi special hai. Aur ap tak pahunchi kavita mere liye bahut imp hai. Sorry pehle reply nahi kar paya as this comment was in spam aaj jake clear kiya. Please keep visiting and motivating.

How amazingly you have captured so many emotions in this poem and have given a loud message. Amazingly written.

  48. I am not sure where we are headed as a society, instead of progressing, we are going back without respecting women, the reason for our birth and the people who are targeted.. A very sad state and your poem captures the need for a revolution! One that empowers and treats women as equal human beings and most importantly with respect!

  51. Harshita Nanda says:

In olden days the joker would be the only one who , in the name of satire, tell the King the truth. Today, your blog name “contemplation of a joker” seems to be very apt. You seem to be showing a mirror to this country by your words. It is a hard-hitting, poem which needs to be read by everyone!

    • Manas Mukul says:

Wow these words are really precious. There is a certain logic to why I named it this way – the blog and the use of the word Joker. Keep appreciating Keep motivating Keep supporting.

  56. jaya1966 says:

Brilliant words Manas. Bharat mata kehna bandh karo. Kya uske saath bhi yehi vyavhar karoge. Those lines are so telling. Also kash bete padathe tho betiyon ka aaj ye hal na hota. Lovely numbing poetry reflecting the state of women in our country. It is truly Duryodhan raj that is going on in this country.

    • Manas Mukul says:

Thank you so much sir for reading and commenting. Its sad that these words find so much relevance in todays times. Hope things change. Maybe Someday. Thanks again for the motivation. 😊👍🏼

You have conveyed perfectly the irony in a country we call Bharat Mata.
Where are we and the country headed?
    Brilliant poem!

    • Manas Mukul says:

Thank you so much for relating with the emotions of the poem Radhika ji. We are only regressing day by day that is all I can say. Sad but that’s the truth. Thanks again 👍🏼👍🏼

Manas, kudos to ur writing. Such a sensitive topic and so well penned. It’s a sad reality of today’s world that women are still objectified and men think of women as a mode of entertainment and not as a human being.

Love your feedback!
